Brief History of Chiropractic
David Daniel Palmer discovered Chiropractic in 1895 after he provided a treatment for a partially deaf janitor, Harvey Lillard, in Davenport, Iowa, USA. Mr. Lillard noted an improvement in his hearing the day after the treatment. Dr. D.D. Palmer later called his treatment, “Chiropractic“. Chiropractic means “done by hand.”
Dr. D.D. Palmer established a chiropractic school two years later in Davenport, Iowa. His most famous student is Dr. B.J. Palmer, his son. Dr. B.J. Palmer established the profession of chiropractic in a medically dominated society and expanded many areas of chiropractic including chiropractic adjusting techniques. Currently, there are more than 100 chiropractic adjusting techniques developed by numerous chiropractors and practiced in the USA & internationally.
Currently, chiropractic is practiced in more than 100 countries and growing.
